Miru Amami

Architecture /

2024

Interior design of a cabin room built on the grounds of the MIRU AMAMI hotel on Amami Oshima, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan.

Carbonised cork was used for the interior walls, giving the space a natural warmth and texture. The cork also absorbs sound, so the room is quiet and calm, allowing guests to spend a relaxing and calm time away from the bustle of the power of nature.
We took care in the arrangement, texture and design of the furniture so that guests can experience the culture and crafts of Amami Oshima even within the room.
Once you step out onto the balcony, you can feel the power of nature on Amami Oshima, with its blue sea and vital tropical forests, more dynamically than usual.

It is a space that is distinctly different from the bright and fresh spaces often found in beach resorts. We have developed a space based on the theme of the Amami forest, where you can enjoy a sense of immersion in nature in silence and shadows.
